Kindergarten: Our Approach

How do we start children on the path to a love of learning? It begins with creating an environment that’s conducive to learning. Especially for Kindergarten students, school presents significant challenges: Unfamiliar surroundings, a complex new social situation with new people and new activities, and extended separation from their families. We spend a lot of time helping the students deal with the emotions that arise from these new challenges. Anxiety, sadness, loneliness and anger that are left unaddressed in young children can present a huge roadblock to learning. Only when these issues are addressed can children engage in the learning opportunities we offer.

You’ll be amazed at the wide variety of hands-on, experiential learning children enjoy. Our Kindergartners cook, paint, care for pets, sing, draw, listen to and tell stories. They use math to observe and chart their similarities and differences. They study their own and other families. They learn science by growing plants. They have time to play, and expend their physical energy in fun games and activities.

At every step we reinforce that our Kindergartners are safe, valued members of their school community. And their experience extends beyond the walls of the school, as they take exciting field trips where they explore their world and their community, and how they fit into it. No wonder our Kindergartners learn so much!
