Middle School: Our Approach

There’s one question that’s in the back of just about every parent’s mind as he/she evaluates middle schools for a child: “How well will the school prepare my child for high school?” Our answer is that we prepare the ENTIRE child – cognitively, emotionally and socially – for the challenges of high school.
>

86% of our middle school graduates go to their first choice of high schools. Our graduates go to a range of schools, including Harvard-Westlake, Buckley, The Archer School, Oakwood, LA County School for the Arts, and a variety of Magnet programs and public LAUSD schools.

>

Our low student-to-faculty ratio allows us to provide personalized attention to each student that goes beyond academics, and addresses the day-to-day issues this tumultuous age can bring.

>

The school’s evaluation process tasks students with the job of setting goals and evaluating their own performance. They must identify their strengths and weaknesses, and develop action plans to address the areas in which they seek improvement. Our graduates are not driven solely by their teachers’ assessments, but by their own.

>

The curriculum focuses both on individual achievement and on interdependent group work, preparing students for a future of collaborative work in their adult lives.

>

Students select, plan and execute community service projects to aid the community-at-large. They learn to think beyond themselves to find ways to make a positive impact on others’ lives.

>

The students take several field trips each year to learn more about other cultures and topics related to their courses of study.

Foundations offers a unique learning environment for middle schoolers – a rigorous academic environment that is part of a holistic approach to preparing its students not just for secondary school, but for the rest of their lives.
